Textile industry – a harsh reality

As an unaware consumer, we believe what we see. a beautiful piece on the mannequin will make our materialistic urge to buy it without even thinking twice and within no time it is already in our wardrobe.
For a moment Let’s stop and think, How is our clothing being prepared? What is its impact on the environment? How real is the impact and how unaware we are as a consumer.
Deeply rooted in handlooms we have an ancient history of textiles, yet we are so blind folded by the glitters of fast fashion that we ignore its harmful impacts. ignorant approach to our traditional textiles, we are on the edge of losing our pride as a country with abundance of craft and culture.
It is not only the largest industry that influences the economy, but also which adds on to the hazardous environmental impacts, which includes -water, air and solid waste pollution.
Every cloth we wear, every manmade fibre we dump takes almost 30-40 years to get decomposed.Fast fashion has made us their puppet and we don’t value what we own, cheap clothing and fashion influences us to keep buying to keep up with the changing fashion. The world of fashion may be stylish, glamorous and exciting, but its impact on environment is worsening day by day.

It is for us to decide and look deeper, start questioning and acknowledging the impact of our actions, even a slight change can be a great influence in protecting our environment.
As truly said by -Vivienne Westwood“Buy less, choose well, make it last.”
